An excellent source of DHA and EPA that is screened for its quality Long chain omega 3 fatty acids (DHA an EPA) are polyunsaturated and are found in abundance in fish oils. They are made by microalgae that live in seawater which are then consumed by fish and accumulate to high levels in their internal organs. Although omega-3 fatty acids have been known as essential to normal growth and health since the 1930s, their health benefits were brought into greater focus in the by researchers studying the Greenland Inuit Tribe in the 1970's. The Greenland Inuit people consumed large amounts of fat from seafood, but displayed virtually no cardiovascular disease. Since then, research has subsequently revealed an array of potential health benefits; Omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce serum levels of cholesterol (important for cardiovascular health). They may also reduce the risk of one type of stroke. Interestingly, aerobic exercise improves Omega 3's ability to benefit cholesterol levels even further. It's also been found that Omega 3's can both enhance fat burning and actually decrease fat storage. People with certain circulatory problems, such as varicose veins, can benefit from supplements containing EPA and DHA which stimulate blood circulation, increase the breakdown of fibrin, a compound involved in clot and scar formation, and additionally have been shown to reduce blood pressure. By decreasing inflammation, Omega 3's can also reduce the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, although it appears to be most useful in the early stages of the disease and it is not clear if it affects the progression of the disease itself. Omega 3's may also reduce the pain associated with menstrual cramps. Danish research illustrated that infants supplementing with fish oil had improvement in immune function maturation with no apparent reduction in immune activation More recent research offers evidence to support Omega 3's increasing performance and strength levels in athletes. Studies are also showing the possibility of Omega 3's decreasing catabolism (muscle breakdown) and increase growth hormone levels. Because omega-3 fatty acids are obtained from natural fish sources, there is a potential issue of harmful heavy metals and toxins within the oil. Importantly, Reflex Nutrition have procedures in place to guarantee that every single batch of Reflex Omega 3 fatty acids are screened for all contaminants, giving you essential peace of mind and satisfaction. |
