CoQ10 is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells. It is a fat soluble vitamin-like substance present in the mitochondria of all the cells in the body.
Coenzyme levels decline with age. It can be naturally found primarily in fish and meat, however only in very small amounts.
Not all forms of CoQ10 are the same, and many common varieties actually employ a synthetic form made from tobacco leaves. However, the "trans" form of CoQ10, which is processed naturally and through yeast fermentation, is identical to that produced by the body.
