Train Hard

Nathan

What a past month or so it’s been. Everything was going well. I had won two events within the South West region Triathlons. I picked up a new Time Trial bike on the Friday. Made the necessary adjustments to race in a Time Trial on the Sunday. Training was hence going very well. The nutrition was keyed in. I have not had any form of virus or cold infection, in fact for what feels like a couple of years.

I rode a local time trial on the Sunday and felt really good. I placed second in a field of thirty. The bike and the body was fast. On the Tuesday, a recovery day was pencilled in. This was ridden on the time trial bike to further become familiar with the feeling and handling of such a bike. It is a far more aggressive forward position than a standard road bike. I had been riding for twenty minutes when SMASH. I was hit by a turning car. It collided with the right leg, flipping the bike into the air. I was still attached to it when I hit the ground and was dragged for about 5metres. I lay in the middle of the road, dazed, took a deep breath and rolled onto the pavement. Bits of bike and equipment scattered. Flesh on show. I was treated quickly by the onsite Paramedics before being taken to hospital.

So ultimately, just over four weeks of no aerobic exercise. Leg was badly lacerated, wrist hardly able to function, ribs, ankles, in-fact the whole right hand side was very painful. Although the left hand side felt great. It is a well documented fact that for each week of exercise missed, it typically takes double the amount of time to regain fitness. So potentially 8 – 10weeks. Of which speed is the hardest to regain.

In the meantime, however I have achieved an incredible pump for what must be considered the ultimate REFLEX pre-exercise, muscular pump. This is prior to exercise on an empty stomach: 1 x Coleus Forskohlii Guggul Lipid Complex, 2 x L-Carnitine, and all taken with NOS Fusion. Which recently I have been taking before hard session days. I can push incredible gears on the bicycle. And with swimming, I just do not want to breath. Can just power through the water. Incredible. I typically save this blend for harder days as do not want the body to become too used to the ingredients, and the effect reduced.

As soon as I was able to train effectively, I hammered most days for one week.
Ensuring that the supplement regime was tailored to this. Either Instant Whey or Micellar Protein after exercise. A serve of Cordyceps and Glucosamine and Chrondroitin ensure very effective recovery and injury prevention. This was in preparation, and prior to entering the Shorelines Triathlon. A little tired going into the race but placed second, and third was a long way back. To be honest, the only reason that I lost this race was on the Bike. I achieved the second fastest Bike, primarily because I lost my nerve descending the last mile and a half into the resort. I was overtaken whilst being very cautions waiting for cars to move. The scar tissue was telling me so. I believe that I was just race rusty and will be back on the top step of the podium very shortly.

This was unfortunately the third time of being struck by a vehicle in five years. So, to every cyclist, and everyone that knows a cyclist, be very careful out there. It is a shame, that the body performs to a very high standard, no injuries caused by overtraining or any forms of infection. Thanks Reflex. It is just the poor decision making, and carelessness of vehicle users. Last month it was a dog attack, I remember that. Luckily none of that recently.
